My Family the Anime Family
Sometimes I think my family would make the basis for an interesting anime series, along the lines of Darling wa Gaikokujin, a comic about a Japanese woman who thinks she's found the "perfect" American husband but is surprised when things don't always go as she expects. In the tradition of Sailor Moon and Magical DoReMi, my daughter would be the main character since she's quite occhokochoi (oh-cho-ko-choi), translatable as "clumsy in a cute way," always needing help from everyone else. Her brother would be a glasses-wearing egghead, constantly pointing out her faults, which is what he does already; you could make a lot of good tsukkomi and boke jokes based on his over-analytical nature when it comes to English, compared with her tendency to use English words freely without actually knowing what they mean. I think I'd make a pretty cool "Pops" type father character, a good-hearted but sometimes bumbling American who is an otaku for Japanese hot springs and who sometimes knows things that Japanese have no idea about. Having my wife as the president of their company (since my wife is president of J-List) would create some humorous situations, too -- the wife could try to pull rank on her husband at home -- while providing an updated vision of women for Japanese children to see. So if you have any contacts at a major animation studio in Japan, please send them my way!

I guess that sort of reminds me of "Bewitched" in the way that the husband and wife are totally different but are so in love that they want to make it work. The way you described your daughter reminds me of Nogizaka Haruka (from Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu).
Yesterday was my birthday... 19... I am so old.
Are Japanese as afraid of foreigners as I have heard, or is that just a lie? I mean, when I go there for a year abroad would I make any friends?

Yes, from different worlds. That dynamic works well.
Happy birthday. Um, 19 is not old, try to get used to it. I just had my 40th the other month.
They aren't afraid of us -- well, a tiny percent of the time we freak them out, like kids who aren't used to foreigners and who might be scared. But no, the worst that can happen is that they're very polite to you...so polite you want to claw your eyes out ^_^

Hmmm very interesting...is there like an other way around? for example the Husband is Japanese and the wife is American?
Hmmmm even though I am Japanese I only lived there for 2 years and on an occasion go back every year. I heard that little children are scared of blonds? My friend told me that little kids were staring at her blond hair....oh and curious what do Japanese guys think of American girls? I find American chicks hot but do guys in Japan like 外国人?like would they date them if they could? I for one love American chicks and Japanese chicks...they are equally attractive

I think your in-laws would add alot to your anime. I mean, they run a liquor store, ne? Gotta be some great stories there. I'd love to see what kind of nihonjin go in a store like that. Do they check IDs? heh

So, it's like a Japanese Dexter's Laboratory?

Ryo, yes, it might work in reverse, with an Americanized/Feminized woman trying to change Japan or something. When I was a teacher I met a lot of kids, like hundreds, and the weren't scared of me, although they didn't know what to make of me sometimes. I remember this one girl who used to look with amazement at the blonde hairs on my arm.
Timo, yes, there could be some ongoing thing where the father in law constantly tries to keep his son in law from stealing sake. That would work! There be some gag where there a 10,000 yen bottle of the best sake that the son in law is trying to get his hands on, and the father has to guard it.

ha, ha! yeah, that would be good! that must be good sake; it's, what?, about $90 U.S.?
