Otakon Recap Pictures
Well, Otakon 2009 is behind us, and what a show it was. I met about zillion anime fans and shook a lot of hands, making some really fun memories in the process -- a major shout-out to everyone who dropped by to say hello. I also got to meet a cool 92-year-old guy named Smitty who had decided to visit the show to see what it was all about, and I got some great photos of him with all the cute cosplay girls. Now it's back to San Diego for the biggest show of them all, the San Diego Comic-Con, where J-List will be present at booth 126, in the Anime Alley section. Hope to see you there!
Anyway, here are the pictures from Otakon that I took:

There were so many Haruhi's it wasn't worth it to try to count them. I wonder if any bought the uniforms we sell now?

Another fun costume. I wonder how they keep from melting in the heat...

Objection! Phoenix Wright cosplay was quite common in the halls.

A dedicated fan, considering how hot it was for much of the con.

Scrapped Princess cosplayer holding a copy of Brave Soul, which is basically a hentai game based on the same character designs. One of those little odd things about anime.

We must all pause and give thanks to Gainax for making Gurren Lagann, and Yoko.

Little Boba Fett was pretty cool. I'll bet his parents were cooler than mine were, sending me out in those awful store-bought plastic smock-type costumes made in Hong Kong.

Another cool dude. He became quite popular on my Twitter stream.

Some cool guys wearing our Take it Easy! shirt.

Was thrilled to see these girls doing a Nitro+ game we've announced, Demonbane. Is anime not the coolest thing in the world, or what?

One of the minor highlights were these two yuri girls who were kissing each other to get free stuff from us. It worked.

Hard Gay was there, even tough he's pretty much gone from TV in Japan.

Of course I had to drink a "BL," aka Budweiser Lime, although everyone in the place was sniggering about the name, since it means boy's love in Japan.

Working an anime con is hard. This is "Smut Wall Guy" (if you've been to a con he's been at, you'll know him), who worked a litle too hard.

This is Smitty, who was the darling of Saturday night at the show. 92 years old, we never figured out why he was there but he had a cell phone (that he couldn't hear) and he said his wife was coming to get him soon. I saw him snapping pictures of the girls as they walked by and decided to help him out by getting the girls to pose with him. He was so thrilled to have all that attention from the cutest girls in the room.

Yaaay Smitty! I can just imagine him trying to explain this to the rest of the guys at the VFW lodge...

Thanks for the tweets and pics from Otakon. I've never been to an anime convention but it looks like a lot of fun!

Hey! I don't know if it was you at the booth that I met, but I was dressed as Louise from Zero no Tsukaima (and they took my picture but it obviously wasn't good enough to make the cut ;) ) They recommended checking out Toradora and I just wanted to pass along my thanks because it is just as great as they said! I think I found my costume for next year... :)

Argh, sorry, I actually have more pics to post but I can't find the other ones of Smith.

The little Naruto and Boba Fett cosplayers were awesome, and I don't even like Star Wars. The Yoko in the main part of that picture was bangin, and awesome sideboob of the Yoko in the background. ヨーコ連続!
