On Sunday it was time for our family's Thanksgiving dinner. Yes, I know, whoever heard of an American having Thanksgiving in December, but both my kids were in the middle of studying for important tests at school, and I was asked by the family in general if we could delay things a week or two. We had all kinds of Costco-enabled good things to eat, from chicken to mashed potatoes to what my wife described as a "bucket of tiramisu" for dessert, which was so large and so delicious and so cheap that it's receiving quite a lot of buzz in the Japanese blogosphere. I think that there's something about living in a foreign country that makes a person more flexible than they'd otherwise be, as you realize that the cultural ideas we all take for granted don't always need to be adhered to that closely. If I ever become leader of the world, I'll make a law that says that all young people must live for at least a year in some other country, to give them some much-needed perspective on their own lives.

"American" Tiramisu compared with Japanese. This picture encapsulates things nicely.

But let me tell you, that was the best damned Tiramisu I've ever eaten. I will never buy it again for the sake of my health, but I will remember the memory of it forever I think. It was that good.
The Continental Congress, in 1777, proclaimed December 18 as a day of thanksgiving, though this may have been more of a "particular thanksgiving" for the victory at Saratoga than a "general thanksgiving" for all the blessings of the outgoing year that our present Thanksgiving holiday represents. So there has been thanksgiving in December.
Once again more issues with Jlist, sent payment for a book and used my 19.80 credit i was issued when they sold my yua aida book out from under me, now they say they cannot find the 19.80 credit, basically stole my money. Its very sad to say this after buying a lot of books from jlist for many years, this company has went really down hill. For so many years no problems with my orders, over the last year nothing but problems with my orders.
Thanks also to Jlist for selling my yua aida karmaa 28 book out from under me, bought a used copy off ebay for triple the cost of what that was one.
Mockingbird, cool, I did not know that!
Richie, very sorry for the problem. I'm not sure what happened but we are certainly sorry for the problem. I'm going to email you about this now.
