Your text can lead to understand that "common use" kanji amount to just 1006.

Just for the record, Jōyō kanji amount to 1,945, and kids go on with studying the remaining 939 in secondary school. So they are far from done when finishing primary school.

Actually, I was surprised at the amount of Spanish there was when I was back last time, and I felt rather like that a few times. My sister hired a babysitter who speaks only Spanish, so I was trying to explain that I am my sister's brother and I live in Japan. Actually it gets to the point where you start to think you could do it if push came to shove.

Unfortunately I have no idea what it's saying, but I can imagine from the expression that the carrot nosed person is being a bit belligerent, possibly thinking that yelling will somehow make you understand what they want and/or give it to them. You see it all the time in the service industries. Then again maybe I'm projecting due to working in them for so long.
